摘要
This study investigates whether corporate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption affects female participation in innovation activities. We find robust evidence that AI adoption significantly increases the share of female patent inventors within U.S. public firms during 2010-2021. Further analysis suggests that reduced gender productivity gap, better female career development, and enhanced cross-gender collaborative environment serve as three possible mechanisms driving the gender effect. Heterogeneity tests show that the effect is stronger for AI applications in areas of science, engineering, and operations, AI usage by rank-and-file employees, and firms in Democratic states. Furthermore, we document that the increased female inventorship generates positive real effects, including higher firm valuation, improved operating and innovation performance, and a strategic shift toward exploitative and process-oriented innovation. Our study suggests that properly deployed AI technologies could promote gender equality among high-skilled labor and offers a specific scenario for the AI-for-Good initiative.

陈翀，中央财经大学中国金融发展研究院副教授，博士生导师，中央财经大学“菁英学者”。博士毕业于香港城市大学商学院，研究领域为公司金融。 其代表性学术成果发表或接受发表在Journal of Corporate Finance、Journal of Business Ethics、 Pacific-Basin Finance Journal、Emerging Markets Finance and Trade、Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics、《管理学报》《中国流通经济》等国内外金融管理领域权威刊物，他主持国家自然科学基金项目，并长期担任Applied Economics, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance等杂志的审稿人。
