摘要
Understanding how firms expand their export product scope is crucial for revealing the dynamic evolution of their international competitiveness. From the perspective of “flow space,” this paper develops an indicator of urban network embeddedness based on multidimensional flow data to systematically examine its impact on the export product scope of Chinese firms. This approach moves beyond the traditional “place space” perspective of agglomeration economies and highlights the crucial role of intercity factor flow networks in shaping firms’ export behavior. The empirical results indicate that higher urban network embeddedness significantly broadens local firms’ export product scope and reinforces the export advantages of their core products. Mechanism analysis from the perspective of knowledge boundaries indicates that urban network embeddedness expands both the explicit and tacit knowledge boundaries of firms, thereby promoting a wider export product scope. Moreover, improvements in the level of knowledge gatekeepers further enhance this positive effect. Finally, this paper introduces the concept of “embeddedness proximity,” suggesting that the positive spillover effects generated by similarity in urban network embeddedness are substantially stronger than those arising from geographical proximity. Overall, this paper provides new theoretical insights and empirical evidence for understanding the mechanisms driving firms’ adjustments in export product scope from the dual perspectives of urban network embeddedness and knowledge boundaries.

刘铠豪，山东大学经济学院副教授、博士生导师，The Scottish Journal of Political Economy副主编，牛津中英学术交流协会副会长，牛津中国论坛特别顾问。长期致力于中国经济（应用微观）的实证研究，在国内外期刊上发表学术论文30余篇，包括Journal of Comparative Economics、Economic Development and Cultural Change、Journal of Applied Economics、The Journal of International Trade & Economic Development、《中国工业经济》、《系统工程理论与实践》、《经济科学》、《财经研究》等。先后主持国家自然科学基金青年项目、国家社科基金重大专项子课题、山东省重点研发计划（软科学项目）重大项目和重点项目等多个项目，曾获山东省社会科学优秀成果奖、山东省人力资源社会保障优秀科研成果奖、山东省高等学校人文社会科学优秀成果奖、山东省软科学优秀科技成果奖等荣誉。
