摘要
Drawing on several studies of financial analysts, the speaker will demonstrate how academic research ideas can evolve from initial data observations into projects with theoretical value and empirical contribution. Rather than focusing on specific research findings, the lecture emphasizes the underlying thought process: how to identify the structural features and comparative advantages of different databases to uncover unique and feasible research angles; how to transform patterns, anomalies, or structural characteristics observed in the data into testable academic questions; and how to assess the potential of these ideas and develop them into full research frameworks.
In addition, the speaker will share practical experience in working with large financial databases, including variable construction, consistency checks, bias detection, and data-cleaning strategies. Through concrete examples, the lecture will illustrate how researchers can leverage their sensitivity to data-generating processes to detect problems, formulate hypotheses, and conduct rigorous empirical analysis, even when the data appear complex or messy.
主讲人简介
赵益巍博士是朗伍德大学商学与经济学院的金融学助理教授，美国FMA，AFA会员。论文发表在Accounting and Finance, Risks等知名英文期刊上，工作论文曾在美国FMA，SWFA等大型年会上宣讲。担任Journal of Risks and Financial Management审稿人。他的主要研究兴趣包括金融分析师行为及其引发的市场反应。
