主 题：How Do Households Respond to Pension Increases? Evidence from Monthly Panel Data in Urban China

摘要
Exploring the prefectural policies that permanently and temporarily increase pension levels in urban China, we use the monthly panel data from Urban Household Survey (UHS) to examine the household responses in an event study setting. For each pension increase, the reform on average increases both permanent and transitory pension incomes among the eligible households, respectively. Based on the responses in the consumption, our estimates yield an estimate of marginal propensity to consume (MPC) being 0.48-0.63 for permanent income but 0-0.10 for transitory income. The consumption responses differ by consumption categories. The estimated MPC is much larger among the households with lower income. By contrast, in the estimating window period, we find no significant changes in other household incomes, including wage, property, business or transfers, or other outcomes such as household size, structure, and individual labor supply. Among the non-eligible households, we find no significant effects on all the above outcomes.

黄炜，新加坡国立大学商学院校长特聘助理教授。2016年哈佛大学经济学博士，2011年北京大学国家发展研究院经济学硕士，2008年北京大学物理学院物理学学士。黄炜博士曾是美国国家经济研究局（NBER）博士后研究员，研究领域是公共经济学，劳动经济学和卫生经济。他的研究成果已发表在Review of Economic and Statistics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Nature, 《管理世界》《经济学（季刊）》等学术刊物上。目前，他还担任Economics of Transition and Institutional Change（原Economics of Transition）的联合主编（Co-editor）和Journal of Asian Economics的客座主编（Guest editor）。他同时担任AER, QJE, JPE,AEJ, JPubE, JoLE, Restat, EJ, JEEA, JDE, JHE, JUE, JCE等国际期刊匿名审稿人。
